Fine coastal cooking and a deep wine list in a restored 1900s Southern mansion, open since 1981. Closed Sundays.
The Olde Pink House & Planters Tavern
23 Abercorn St, Reynolds Square
Southern dining in an 18th-century mansion. Downstairs, the Planters Tavern cellar bar has fireplaces, the same menu and a pianist from 7:30 p.m.
Tip: The tavern takes no reservations; put your name down and wait in the square.
Vic's on the River
Old cotton warehouse between Bay St and River St
Southern cooking and local seafood in an old cotton warehouse with tall windows over the Savannah River, and a piano bar nightly from 7 p.m.
Tip: Ask for a window table to watch the cargo ships glide past.

Wormsloe State Historic Site

The famous mile-and-a-half avenue of moss-draped live oaks, leading to the ruins of a colonial estate. Open 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily; about $12 for adults.
Bonaventure Cemetery
330 Bonaventure Rd, Thunderbolt
A hauntingly beautiful riverside cemetery under live oaks and Spanish moss. Free to enter, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; the historical society leads free tours at 2 p.m. on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month.
Forsyth Park & Saturday farmers' market
Forsyth Park, south end of the Historic District
The city's great park and fountain. On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Forsyth Farmers' Market fills the south end with 60-plus producer-only stalls.
Our advice
- Walk the squares after dinner; they're lovely and calm late in the evening.
- Visit Wormsloe and Bonaventure on a weekday morning for peace and soft light.
- Plan the special dinner for Friday or Saturday; Elizabeth on 37th and several bars close on Sundays.
