Things to Do in Boston at Night for Grown-Ups

Boston is not a late city, which is exactly why its evenings suit grown-ups: museums that stay open into the night, a harbor sunset cruise, the Symphony a short ride from a hotel cocktail bar and a family-run jazz club that has had live music every night since 1947. Here is how to spend an evening, from the top of the Prudential Tower to the last set.

Our advice

  • Pair areas: the Fenway and South End for the MFA, the Gardner, the Symphony, Wally's and The Hawthorne; Back Bay for View Boston and Contessa; the Seaport for the ICA, Row 34 and the harbor.
  • Thursday is the best night for museums: the MFA, the Gardner and the ICA are all open late.
  • Boston winds down earlier than New York. Book dinner for 7 or 7:30 and plan your late stop in advance.
  • Check current hours, show times and prices before you go.

Everything here was checked in September 2026. Museum hours, tour times and seasonal ferries change, so confirm before you go.
